WORDS FROM THE HELM
Well another year has passed, I reckon more quickly than the last – Wow, 2009 in only a few days time!
Each year it seems there is always more to do and 08 was no exception: The highlights were of course creating and collaborating on new tattoo work with my very cool existing client base and also meeting some new people through tattoo – a medium that is ever expanding and changing they way we think and perceive art to be.
Both Dave and Andy have been kept fairly solid with their own clientele, Dave's interest in portraiture is shining strong and along with Andy's use of colour blending and lean to Japanese style reference is a good compliment to the front studio.
My apprentice Josh Doe has graduated from tattooing all small things black to pretty much carte blanche of the tattoo smorgasboard. He is working well and you can see by his bio that his skill is gaining momentum.
Sarah has graduated from studio manager to add body piercing to her string of attributes so please feel free to talk with her about any piercing enquiries you may have if. Also a big thank you if you were one of her practice pin cushions..lol – gaining experience by practice piercing is most important!
Charz is our new kid on the block – she's slotted in well and handles studio management, piercing and is currently honing her drawing skills to commence a tattoo apprenticeship sometime in the near future.
To close, on a practical note, our middle studio refurbishment is now complete: New walls, floor, plumbing and cabinetry – clean and modern for piercing and sterilizing. We've also got new ManicPanic stock in so if you are one of those punks hanging out for some green or pink hair, well hell, get your ass in here!!!
On a personal note, I got my Harley back on the road with new pipes, bars and replaced the dashboard I cracked from riding nearly 1200 k's in one fucking day! I also have expanded my time on the water and started crewing on a mate's yacht racing 'Twilights' at our local CYCSA...sailing is something I love and enjoy; it's an adventure; just you and the boat working with wind and water, creating power from the sail... I gotta say it's a physical science, a passion as anyone who knows me will agree.
So that's my spiel for 08 people. Thanks to Morag and my awesome crew for getting us through another year and doing The Tattoo Gallery proud. I wish you, family and friends a very Merry Christmas and all the best for a safe and prosperous New Year.....oh and hey, for once I agree with the damn government.... Keep the economy trucking on.... spend money...... get tattooed and keep Australia real!
