Body Piercing Survey, October 2006
The following Body Piercing Survey was a result of work carried out and information collated by a team of consultants headed by Steve Parker, a Community Safety Consultant.
Steve was introduced to Morag by Helen Psarras, a Science Officer with the Department of Health, who was aware of Steve's team receiving a small amount of funding to compile research on post-piercing 'complications' in youth mainly in the Southern areas of Adelaide Metropolis.
Morag met with Steve, Helen and Meegan Brotherton and it was clear that in order to find out what levels of complications people were experiencing with body piercing, a survey needed to be prepared and sent out to not only General Practitioners to see what level of care they were offering post-piercing, but also to body piercing studios themselves.
The results are in pdf format for your information. One of the most shocking results was the extremely high level of ear piercing complications registerd by General Practioners. This is defeinitely due to the use of piercing guns which should be banned as they case trauma and un-necessary swelling and often horrid infections.
This report has been showcased to Government officials and Members of Parliament alike.
If you have any NEGATIVE or POSITIVE experiences about getting a piercing - tell us your story - you don't need to name businesses or even name yourself.
