COSMETIC PIGMENTATION TATTOOING
General Information
Due to the gradual knowledge about and growing demand for the service of areola/nipple re-pigmentation, Mike is now offering this service at The Tattoo Gallery.
To give you an idea of what areola re-pigmentation is, it is simply a tattoo process that is primarily done on breast cancer survivors who have had reconstructive surgery. In most cases, the surgeon will create a nipple and graft it onto the patient's breast. Once this is well healed, Mike can tattoo a natural colour onto the graft and create the areola colour surrounding the nipple, often complimenting the healthy breast. Pigments are skillfully used to create texture and colour that a natural areola has and light and shade can create a look that is realistic and natural.
Mike has also used pigments to darken natural healthy areolas which lighten due to ageing. This is really no different than a traditional tattoo and can be a fairly quick procedure. In each instance of cosmetic pigmentation tattooing, prior consult is necessary with Mike so that pigment can be matched in advance and the client can be given a quote to complete.
Is the procedure painful? Usually not, as most women who have had reconstruction from breast cancer have no nerves in the area. If a natural breast areola is being tattooed simply to darken the color, then EMLA numbing cream can be applied to the area 2 hours prior to the procedure.
Health Issues
The health issues surrounding cosmetic tattooing are similar to those for normal dermagraphic tattooing. If you suffer from an auto-immune disorder, insulin dependent diabetes, on strong blood thinners, have a heart condition or any skin disorder or medical condition that can hinder the tattoo process or impede the heal time of a tattoo, including pregnancy and breast-feeding, we need to know about this at the initial consultation stage. Liaison with a Client’s physician or specialist may be necessary.
After Care
Aftercare is the same as for a dermagraphic tattoo. On completion of your cosmetic tattoo process, it will be covered and you will be supplied with written aftercare information.
Do not leave your covering on for more than three hours and if it is stuck to the tattooed skin when you do try to remove it, get in the shower and gently wash the covering off.
Aftercare cream is available for purchase from the studio. Don’t swim or soak a new tattoo or expose the tattoo to direct sunlight. Your tattoo will take between 7-14 days to heal and you need to apply aftercare cream after showering daily. It will heal like a mild case of sunburn and itchiness is a natural occurrence. Do not scratch or pick the tattoo – this can affect the colour!
A touch-up of your tattoo is complimentary and is valid for three months from the date of your appointment. Bookings are essential for this.
